To write a story, you must first plan a story.
Whether you’re a plotter or a pantser, there’s a certain amount of planning involved. Everyone does some. Maybe you keep it stored in your head, or maybe you write it all out, page after page, ad infinitum. Most people are somewhere in between.
How do you recognize a good idea? Where do you find your characters? Do you need to create a completely fictional setting or can you use your hometown? What genre does your story land in? What’s your story even about?
I can help.
